What Happened to Afterpolo, and Where Sotogrande Goes Out in August Now

Search for nightlife in Sotogrande and you'll still find Afterpolo near the top of several guides: the open-air summer party next to the polo fields, open until six in the morning. The problem is that it no longer exists in that form. Here's what it was, when it stopped, and where the August nights in Sotogrande happen now.

What Afterpolo was

Afterpolo was an event space in the Los Pinos area of the polo grounds, in what andalucia.com calls Area A, between the Los Pinos II and Los Pinos III fields. The same source describes it as running 'the best Sotogrande fiestas', typically from midnight until 6am throughout the summer. It worked with well-known Spanish artists such as Gonzy, Henry Mendez and Noriel, and ran themed nights; one of the last was a Barbie night in summer 2024. For years, an August night in Sotogrande meant polo in the afternoon and Afterpolo after midnight.

When and how it ended

According to andalucia.com, Afterpolo 'in this form' was discontinued after the 2024 summer season. That same summer the polo grounds tried something new: for the first time there were four concerts on what was called the Larios Stage. We haven't found a public statement explaining the decision, and we're not going to guess. What matters if you're planning a summer is simple: there was no Afterpolo in 2025 or 2026 in the format people remember, and no venue has taken over the name.

Why guides still list it

Many nightlife guides to Sotogrande were written years ago and haven't been touched since. Some still list Afterpolo with a phone number and opening hours as if nothing had changed, alongside clubs whose status is equally out of date. If a guide sends you to Afterpolo, take it as a sign the rest of its information may be old too. We check every venue against its own website, its own ticket listing or the local press, and we date the facts we quote.

The polo is still there

What hasn't changed is the reason everyone comes in August. The 55th international tournament in 2026 was played on the Los Pinos pitches, organised by Ayala Polo Club, and andalucia.com lists the main dates:

Cup (2026)FromFinal
Bronze CupMon 27 JulySat 1 August
Silver CupMon 3 AugustSat 15 August
Gold CupMon 17 AugustSat 29 August

The 2027 dates haven't been published yet. If the pattern holds, the season will again peak from late July to the end of August.

Where the August nights went

Without Afterpolo, August nightlife in Sotogrande has spread out across a few venues. This is what August 2026 actually looked like, from the venues' own listings and the local press:

Date (2026)WhereWhat
Late JulyBahía Limón, Torreguadiaro'Off Soto Serie', DJs from 23:00 until the early hours
Fri 7 AugSO/ SotograndeAndalusian Nights, flamenco and horses, from 22:00
7, 8, 13, 14, 21 AugTrocaderoEnclave de Sol festival, doors 20:00
Fri 8 & 22 AugThe Beach, La ReservaAprès Beach, deep house with DJ Hondo
Sat 8 AugÁgoraWhitetauro, house, from 00:30
Fri 21 AugSO/ SotograndeFlamenco Night
Fri 4 SeptÁgoraClosing party, 00:00 to 06:00

The pattern is clear enough. The early evening belongs to the beach clubs, the big set-piece nights to Trocadero's festival and the shows at the SO/ hotel, and the hours after midnight to Ágora. None of them is Afterpolo, but between them they cover the same ground. Here's how the two main pieces fit.

Ágora: the late-night answer

If what you miss about Afterpolo is dancing until six, the place now is Ágora, Sotogrande's nightclub at the Centro Comercial Mar y Sol. It has an indoor Club and a summer Terrace, and the music depends on the night: reggaeton with PerreoLab, house with Whitetauro. Its 2026 summer ran from a warm-up on 19 June to the closing on 4 September, which covers the whole polo season.

Trocadero and Torreguadiaro: the evening before

For the hours between the last chukka and midnight, the options are the beach clubs. Trocadero's Enclave de Sol festival (formerly its flamenco festival) is the big sit-down night of August, with tickets in 2026 from €45. Down the coast in Torreguadiaro, Chambao has DJs at sunset and Bahía Limón runs its weekly programme of flamenco, funk and live music. A realistic August plan now goes: polo in the afternoon, sunset in Torreguadiaro or a festival night at Trocadero, then Ágora.

Is anything replacing it?

Not that we can confirm. The 2024 Larios Stage concerts showed the polo grounds experimenting with live music, but for 2025 and 2026 we haven't found a late-night event at Los Pinos that picks up where Afterpolo left off. If one is announced for summer 2027, we'll add it here with the details from the organiser.

How to plan an August weekend now

  • Check the polo calendar first: the big finals are on Saturdays, and those are the busiest nights everywhere.
  • Book Trocadero's festival early if you want a table; in 2026 the front tables were the most expensive tier and the first to go.
  • For sunset, Torreguadiaro (Chambao or Bahía Limón) or a Friday Après Beach at La Reserva.
  • Buy Ágora tickets in advance: they're sold in releases that get more expensive, and early ones include a drink before 1am.
  • Sort transport before you go out. Sotogrande is spread out and August taxis are in demand.
