Chambao Sotogrande: What Torreguadiaro's Beach Bar Is Like

Chambao is the beach bar people mention when you ask where Sotogrande goes for a drink with music once the sun drops. It isn't in Sotogrande proper: it's on Torreguadiaro beach, the village right next to the port of Sotogrande. Sandbeds calls it the liveliest beach bar in the area. Here's what a visit looks like.

Where it is

Chambao is on Torreguadiaro beach (postcode 11312), in the municipality of San Roque, beside the port of Sotogrande. Torreguadiaro is small, so parking gets tight on summer evenings; if you're drinking, a taxi is the sensible call. Its neighbour on the same beach is Bahía Limón, which makes it easy to do both in one evening.

Midday: beds, espetos and sushi

The kitchen runs non-stop from 12:30 to midnight, according to its website. Lunch is relaxed: hammocks and Balinese beds with table service, and a menu that puts sardine espetos and fish from the Strait next to sushi, salads and sharing plates. The venue itself recommends the fresh sushi and the seafood espeto. Drinks lean towards cocktails and premium gin and tonics. Prices aren't published; Sandbeds rates it €€€ relative to other beach clubs in the area and says prices vary with season and zone.

Sunset and night: the reason to come

The afternoon is when Chambao changes gear. DJs play what the venue calls elegant music to slide into the evening, and at night there's live music and DJs. Sandbeds talks about concerts and DJs in season and recommends checking the calendar before you go. An older guide (Open Frontiers, 2023) singled out Wednesday nights as especially popular; we haven't seen a 2026 schedule confirming a fixed night, so ask before you plan around it. What's consistent across sources is the timing: the place gets livelier as the day goes on.

Who you'll meet

Sandbeds describes the crowd as a mix of residents, holidaymakers and visitors from La Línea and Gibraltar, which fits the location halfway between them. In July 2026 Chambao was one of the bars showing Spain's matches, with Bahía Limón and the port pubs, so it's a place where locals gather as well as visitors.

Chambao or Bahía Limón?

They share a beach, so most people end up comparing them. The short version, from the sources we've used:

Our take: Chambao for sunset with a DJ and a bed by the sand; Bahía Limón when there's a specific night you want, such as flamenco on a Thursday. On a summer evening there's nothing stopping you doing one and then the other, before finishing at Ágora in Sotogrande if it's one of its nights.

When it's open

Its website says Chambao opens in April, and Sandbeds gives May to October as its usual season. That makes it a good bet from spring right through to early autumn; late in the year, confirm before you go. Booking for the evening is recommended by the venue, and Sandbeds warns that summer weekends fill up. Chambao also organises private evening events for companies and groups on request.

Tips for a good visit

  • Arrive in the late afternoon if you're there for the music: that's when the DJs start and the place fills up.
  • In July and August, book a Balinese bed or a table in advance rather than turning up.
  • Ask about that week's live music when you book; the programme changes through the season.
  • Parking in Torreguadiaro is limited on summer evenings, so plan a taxi if you're drinking.
